ABOUT THE PROJECT

We Are Becoming is a documentary film and research project centering the stories of youth-led initiatives around the world which are born out of the Spirit of Anthroposophy.

We will map a global community of young people working out of Anthroposophical impulses today.

We will produce a series of videos released online throughout production, documentary portraits and interviews with participants, and a feature-length film to be released in 2025.

We will research and tell the stories of a unique group of projects that are forging new pathways for community, ecology, economy, governance and the arts in our modern world and the young people behind these projects. Through this research we will develop and document the throughlines we see in these communities, initiatives, and individuals.

From Germany to Georgia, the USA to Argentina, Sweden to Australia, this project circles the globe to tell stories of young people Becoming - and helping their communities to become, in the process.

A FEW STORIES THAT HAVE INSPIRED THE PROJECT

  • A House in Georgia

A group of young people, all under 26 years of age, imagined, designed, and built an educational center in Matsevani, Georgia.

  • CRAFT AND POTTERY IN THE USA

Every few months in a small town in Upstate New York, a hand-built wood-firing kiln is tended tirelessly for three days and three nights by students of the M.C. Richards Program.

  • Publishing in Argentina

“Casa De Los Jovenes” is a press, bookbindery, and publishing group run by the Youth Section in Cordoba, Argentina.

vision: the youth are here

As young people living and working in Anthroposophically inspired communities around the world, we are frequently asked the question, "Where are the Youth?" This project is our answer.

There is a generation of young people all over the globe interested in Anthroposophy who are creating new pathways and forms to bring the work into the world. We Are Becoming will document these initiatives and forge an accessible network of stories for all to see.

AUDIENCE: INSPIRING HOpE

We believe that bringing the stories of hopeful, future-oriented initiatives and individuals to light is vital for the future - both in regards to the Anthroposophical movement, and the world as a whole. We aim to make clear the presence and vitality of young people inspired by Anthroposophy today. Our audience goal is threefold:

  • Dedicated Anthroposophists and others who yearn to see a youth they can believe in, and find hope for the future in the realms of community, ecology, economy, governance, and the arts.

  • Young people (age 15-18) graduating from Waldorf schools and other educational institutions, looking for inspiration towards a path of work or service that will make a positive impact in the world after graduation

  • Youth Section co-workers and other young people working out of Anthroposophy worldwide, who may not have access or visibility to others in our incredible network, to strengthen and help vitalize these bonds.

  • Interviews with leading Anthroposophical thinkers, ex-Youth Section participants who have grown into their work in the world, and current youth-section participants

  • A survey of youth-led and youth-engaging initiatives, of the recent-past and present.

  • Ongoing surveys into new and creative forms of youth-led community initiative around the world, in the realms of education, farming, social structures, science, and the arts.
